Have you pictured Jesus as your coach at work? What might Jesus ask you, if he were at your work this day? Perhaps you have thought about Jesus in your workplace before, but have you ever thought of him showing up looking like he had just been mangled by Jesus haters? How might it effect you to have a bleeding, thorn crowned Jesus, coaching you near your desk? What if Jesus were to put his blood splattered hands on your shoulder and ask you about the salvation status of your work peers? What if he asked you if you had put his blood over your office door this day?
What question might Jesus ask you?
If you are a student of Jesus’ method of working with people you will strive to ask great questions and listen well, and do so from a perspective of the cross.
Jesus’ asked thought provoking questions like: “Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your lifespan?” and “Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink? and “Do you love me?”
In the gospels Jesus asks 307 questions. He is asked 183 of which he only answers 3 directly. How can you ask better questions to those around you? Here are three tips:
1) Ask yourself, “How can I ask questions that open up this persons heart?”
2) Ask yourself, “How can I phrase a question so it may help this person understand themselves and their motives?”
3) Ask yourself, “Why am I asking what I am asking? Is there any love in me to hear their answer?”
Jesus listens from the viewpoint of one who was carrying the punishment of sin for the person to whom he is speaking! Because of blood he has keen interest in their victory. How about you? Listen from a perspective of blood. It is said of Jesus in his conversation with the rich young ruler, “Jesus looked at him and loved him.”
