Do you need greater spiritual power? Below are my twelve Irresistible Spiritual Weapons to help you fight off the five big 'D''s: Discouragement, Despair, Doubt, Disillusionment and Depression. If you aren't fighting one of these, likely someone close to you is. Sit and talk through the twelve weapons with that struggling person. They will thank you and you will have sharpened your own skill by doing so.
Weapon 1. Jesus knew He was loved by the Father. How did this affect his effectiveness? Knowing you are loved changes everything. (John 15:9) Weapon #1 is Receive Love.
Weapon 2. We can "resist the devil" because we have a choice. It is your power to change the game and turn the tables. (James 4:7) "Cling to what is good, hate what is evil." Weapon #2 is Choose Holiness.
Weapon 3. Not all liquid is water. Not all books quench soul thirst. The Word of God with it's "high octane" promises are 100% true and for this reason give hope like nothing else. (Heb 4:12) Weapon #3 is Drink The Word of God.
Weapon 4. Secular motivators teach "believe it and you can achieve it." Belief works even for the unfaithful because belief has power. Point that faith at something worthy of trust and Jesus says eternity swings wide open. Want to increase your faith? Here is the key: try doubting all that isn't eternal. (Hebrews 11:6) Weapon #4 is Believe in Unseen Help.
Weapon 5. People "name drop" when it is to their advantage. A rich or famous connection is leverage in certain situations. Similarly, using the Name of Jesus works in the invisible realms where there is compromised recognition of His Omnipotence. His name is the highest name and accordingly it gets respect. According to Hebrews 1:2, He is Creator of the Universe. Call it out like you would a brother. He is your connection. (Acts 4:12) Weapon #5 is Call Out the Name of Jesus.
Weapon 6. The Passover of Moses' day was about lamb's blood applied to the family door. Millennia later, Jesus, God's Lamb, died on Passover day as a sacrifice. Now we must apply His blood. Odd, but true -- visit Calvary in your mind and apply that blood. The blood of Jesus has been proven over and over again as a power cure from demonic harassment. Jesus' Blood is wholly holy. (Revelation 12:11) Weapon #6 - Apply The Blood of Jesus Over Your Household.
Weapon 7. Sincere praise has it's source in deep conviction. Sometimes we don't feel like praising God. But when we do, praise actually re-convicts us of our place in the universe. "I am small; God is Great." It returns us to a place of safety. I am the sheep -- He is the Shepherd. (Psalm 8:3-9) Weapon #7 - Praise Jesus.
Weapon 8. Speaking our loyalties changes realities. The Bible says when you "confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord" we rearrange the authorities in unseen places. That offensive maneuver doesn't happen silently. (Rom. 10:9,10) Weapon #8 - Confess with Your Mouth
Weapon 9. We see that human humility has a magnetic draw to God. He can't resist it. King Manasah -- involved in idolatry, sorcery, human sacrifice -- humbled himself, and God restored him. Humility is spiritual dynamite because it is all that Satan isn't and never wanted to be. Oddly humility is not acquired; rather it is the affect of being in the presence of God. Weapon #9 Operate from Humility.
Weapon 10. Jesus didn't pray. What? That's right. When the demon from the child was cast out -- it doesn't say he prayed. (Matt 17:21) But when telling HOW the demon came out, He explains, "only by prayer and fasting." In other words Jesus had pre-prayed (and pre-fasted) to be ready for this spiritual warfare. (Daniel 10) Weapon #10 Fast and Pray Before You Need it.
Weapon 11. Jesus said, "Where two or three come TOGETHER in my name I will be in their midst." Satan works on a principle of division, in fact his kingdom was founded on a fraction. Not so with God. Everything about Jesus and the Father and the Spirit is about unity. Unity demands the surrender of self will and by this it is an invincible power. (Matthew 18:20) Weapon #11 Seek Unity around Christ
Weapon 12. To live without a weight on your shoulders is the beginning of power. In Christ, you have received every blessing of God. Christ removes guilt, lifts condemnation, demolishes fear. Grace gives us what we don't deserve. Remember, grace is God's pleasure. (Romans 8:1) Weapon #12 Live in Abundant Grace
